Speaker: Tim McCain, Rockwell Automation
Tim McCain is the Information Software Regional Manager supporting the Northeastern United States. In this role, he is responsible for the FactoryTalk Software Portfolio and works with Rockwell Automation’s ecosystem of field sales, professional services, distribution, and system integrator partners to bring information solutions to customers. In his 16-year career with Rockwell Automation, Tim has held a variety of roles with increasing responsibilities including Applications Engineer, Consultant, and Solutions Architect.
The combination of industrial automation and the concept of Internet of Things promises to significantly reduce costs for operating expenditures as sensors, controllers, and actuators become internet-enabled. Control systems increasingly make use of fieldbus networks as smart devices spread. Previously unused data from low-level devices will become available for analysis and control. Security looms as an important issue because each connected device represents a target for unauthorized access. Tim’s discussion will include these and other effects of IoT as well as how various automation companies approach the market.
